Top 5 James Bond Movie Watches

Our recent post about the edition of the Omega Seamaster Bond watch, and the upcoming release of Quantum of Solace starring Daniel Craig, made us think about our favourite watches from the James Bond movies, so here's our top five wristwatches as worn by James Bond 007 in descending order.

5. Octopussy (1983)
Whilst being shown around Q's base in India, Bond sampled the array of gadgets that Q branch had come up with, including a Seiko TV watch which was linked to a video-camera. Bond demonstrated this by pointing the camera at a staff members cleavage and zooming in and out, much to Q's frustration. Ok, it's not going to save the earth but it's a scene typical of Roger Moore's Bond and we salute him for it!

4. From Russia With Love (1963)
I remember the first time I saw From Russia With Love. I was totally gob-smacked to see Bond garrotted in the first few minutes by the menacing figure of Robert Shaw who pulls out a cord from his wristwatch. Then the mask is removed, and we see that it wasn't Bond but someone with a mask, on who got the unfortunate task of going up against Red Grant in a KGB training exercise. We later see the watch again in On Her Majesty's Secret Service when Bond clears his desk.

3. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
The Spy Who Loved Me was probably Roger Moore's best Bond film and in it he was armed with a Seiko 0674 wristwatch. The watch was able to receive messages, but not only receive them but also print them on a small tape like a Dymo labeller.

2. Goldeneye (1995)
It's Pierce Brosnan's first outing as Bond, and early in the movie he introduces his new Omega Seamaster which is equipped with a laser cutter which he uses to cut his way through a metal hatch. Back in Sean Connery's non-Eon Never Say Never Again, he has a Rolex watch with a laser cutter.

1. Live And Let Die
Bond is synonymous with getting the girl and beating the bad guy. In this film Roger Moore does both with the assistance of his Seiko timepiece. It has an ultra strong magnet, which he uses throughout the film. We first see it when he uses it to cheekily pull down the zip on a girl's dress - "Sheer magnetism, Darling" - and then later uses it to get hold of the air bullet. The watch also has a very cool buzz-saw on the bezel which lets him cut his way out of the ropes he is tied up in the final scenes. For these vital dual purposes, this is our favourite Bond watch ever, and it just happens to have been worn by our favourite bond ever too.

Changing A Watch Battery

If the battery has died on an expensive watch, we would definitely recommend that you take a trip down to your local jeweller and let them use the proper tools to open up the case and change it. If it's just a cheap watch, you migh try it yourself. Here's a video tutorial...

Bond's Omega Seamaster

It's less than six months to go now until the release of the latest Bond flick, Quantum of Solace. Production is rumoured to have been hit by a "curse", but we're sure it will be an awesome movie and can't wait to see Daniel Craig back as Bond.

Bond's watch of choice has for the last few years been an Omega Seamaster Diver 300m. Omega has previously released a special Bond edition which has a blue bezel, but in readiness for the new Bond movie, Omega has released a new black bezel version of the 007 collectors watch.

Fossil Sets Ambitious Targets

Watchmaker, Fossil Inc, has set ambitious targets for its future growth. According to Reuters:

"The company said it expected Fossil brand sales to rise to $1.4 billion in 2012 from $735 million in 2007. Total net sales last year were $1.43 billion.
In its slide presentation, Fossil also indicated that it would increase its global store count to 700 in 2012 from 244 in 2007."

Kenneth Cole Uses Sikh Model

Kenneth Cole has once again proved its progressive credentials by hiring a Sikh model for a billboard campaign in Manhatten. I think we are a bit more enlightened in the UK, but in the wake of 9/11, having a turban might have invited a bit more trouble than one might have liked.
